Milwaukee police shot and killed a 22-year-old man Friday near 84th Street and Lynx Avenue on Milwaukee’s northwest side.Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said officers were called to the scene for a man threatening to shoot the caller in the 8500 block of West Kaul Avenue. Police later learned the suspect was trying to rob the caller.When officers arrived, they saw the suspect armed with a revolver walking away from the scene. Police said the man told police to shoot him as he held the gun to his head and threatened to shoot officers.The suspect then ran into a nearby apartment building and went to a second-floor hallway. Norman said police heard the gun discharge. As officers ordered him to drop the revolver, an officer discharged his firearm at the suspect. No one was struck at this time. Officers negotiated with the suspect for approximately one hour. During the conversation, the suspect agreed to accept a bottle of water and a cigar from the officers. Norman said the man then walked down the stairs to retrieve the items. Officers then used less lethal options to try to arrest the suspect. The man then went back up the stairs. Officers then discharged their duty firearms at the suspect, striking him.Watch Chief Norman’s news conference belowHe was arrested and taken to Froedtert Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 p.m. No officers were injured.The officers involved in the incident are a 39-year-old man with more than 13 years of service, a 46-year-old man with more than 22 years of service, and a 41-year-old man with more than 22 years of service. They will be placed on administrative duty as is standard procedure in a critical incident. WISN News reporter TJ Dysart spoke to a woman at Froedtert who said she’s the mother of the man shot by police. She identified her son as Jaylyn Brown.”I really don’t know what happened. I was out at the scene. I did speak to negotiators, and they said they were gonna have my niece speak with him. And the next thing I know, they were bringing out big guns. They said he wouldn’t come out the building, so they had evacuated the building,” D’Lynn Brown said.The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident.
