JAKARTA – Bruno Fernandes has the opportunity to win two prestigious awards after being nominated for the 2026 PFA Player of the Year award.
The Manchester United captain, who received the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award last month, is one of six nominees for the PFA award chosen by members of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).
He also won the English League Best Player award last week. One of the awards was thanks to the new record set by the 31-year-old midfielder in the English League.
Fernandes is known to have set a record of 21 assists in one season while helping Manchester United secure Champions League qualification by finishing in third place.
No wonder, Fernandes’ slick performance in the 2025/2026 season makes him the first Manchester United player since Wayne Rooney in 2010 to win the PFA award if he leads the player vote.
English Premier League champion Arsenal has three nominations – Declan Rice, David Raya, and Gabriel Magalhaes – on the short list. Then, Manchester City duo Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland complete the six nominations.
Haaland is the only former winner on the shortlist – the Norwegian striker won the award after helping Manchester City to a treble in 2023.
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Opera House, Manchester, on 25 August 2026.
