In case you’ve been living under a rock, the World Cup is coming to Houston in just a few weeks. Travelers from around the world will (maybe) hit the city to watch some fútbol (that’s soccer for you Yankees) and civic life will slow to a crawl. That includes one of June’s premiere events in Space City.Â
Because FIFA has reportedly restricted major events in World Cup host cities during the tournament’s run, Houston’s annual LGBTQ+ pride parade was moved from its long-standing date at the end of June to the first week of the month. So, instead of having a whole month of events running up to the parade, the parade on June 6 is going to sneak up on everyone!Â

Pride Month is coming up? Isn’t it still January?
Sorry diva, but time moves in a linear fashion.
So when is the parade?
In January, Pride Houston announced that its 48th annual downtown parade would take place on June 6, 2026. That’s a Saturday. In 2025, it was on the last weekend of June. But because the World Cup will run in Houston from June 14 to July 4, it’s gotta move.Â

“This marks the first time in Pride Houston’s 48-year history that the Festival and Parade will kick off Pride Month at the start of June, providing greater visibility and demonstrating leadership for Houston’s LGBTQIA+ community,” Pride Houston previously said.Â
The festival, which is a ticketed event, will take place at 11 a.m. June 6. Tickets can be bought here. The parade will start at 7:30 p.m. at Houston City Hall,901 Bagby St.Grammy-nominated rapper Big Freedia will apparently be there. Â

Is there anything going on before the parade?
Besides the festival, Pride Houston has a few official lead-up events. That includes a June 3 fashion show at NOTO Houston and EDEN, the official “Girl+ Party” for “women and femmes.” I guess that includes me. Again, a full lineup of the events officially sanctioned by Houston Pride can be found on their website.

If you’re a sporty queer, there’s also Houston Astros Pride Night, where the Astros will play the Pittsburgh Pirates, on June 3. The Astros are very bad, which feels kind of homophobic, but that’s baseball, Susan!Â
The fine people over at Outsmart Magazine also have a nice list of queer events around town, and I recommend giving it a look.Â
What should I do after the parade?
I mean, you have free will. All the gay bars in Houston will surely be doing something. Do I have to do everything for you?

What are YOU going to be doing for Pride Month, Gwen? Â
Man, I don’t know. Pride is sneaking up on me. I haven’t even bought my outfit! But for real, I’ll be attending Astros Pride Night and the downtown parade for sure. I’ll probably also be partying at JR’s and Pearl all month long. Also, I’m already gay and transgender. That’s kind of my plan.Â
