Georgia shut out Texas, 2-0, in Tuesday night’s elimination game behind another spectacular pitching performance, this time from Dylan Vigue and Justin Byrd to advance to the Men’s College World Series semifinals.
With the victory, the Bulldogs set a program record for single-season wins (53). UGA will next take on Oklahoma again at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday on ESPN. Georgia must beat the Sooners twice to reach the championship finals, needing wins on Wednesday and in Thursday’s if necessary game.
Vigue and Byrd combined for 12 strikeouts while allowing only four total hits. Tre Phelps ended the stalemate in the fifth, breaking out of his hitting slump with an RBI double to left field. Georgia scored again in the seventh, a frame filled with challenges, on Rylan Lujo’s sacrifice fly.
Just three different players collected hits for UGA in the win. Only four recorded hits for Texas.
