SAN ANTONIO — The conversations throughout the NBA Finals have been about how New York Knicks fans turned the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio into a miniature Madison Square Garden.

Many online have been critical of San Antonio Spurs fans for not filling the arena — but fans say it's more  nuanced than that. Spurs fans online and in the community feel like the've been priced out from rooting on the Spurs inside the Frost Bank Center.

The cheapest ticket found in both Games 1 and 2 were over $750. Even Spurs season ticket holders were feeling the prices soar, forcing them to sell their tickets.

Spurs fans Alma Gonzalez and Allie Garza talked to Spectrum News 1 about the price jump.

“I checked the day after they won, like the morning of, and they were $1,700 for the rounded nosebleeds,†Gonzalez said.

Garza echoed similar experiences.

“I got a text with a ticket link and the standard admission was at two grand,†Garza said. “This was the day of Game 2 of the NBA Finals.â€Â

In San Antonio, the median household income is around $65,000. For many Spurs fans, those ticket prices could be rent money or funds towards their mortgage.

Knicks fans also felt the pain of soaring ticket prices just to set foot in Madison Square Garden.

It was less expensive for New Yorkers to fly to San Antonio, get a hotel, enjoy the city and attend an NBA Finals game in the Alamo City.

Knicks guard Josh Hart even called out the expensive ticket prices.

Knicks and Spurs fans are priced out of the NBA Finals, but only one fanbase can afford to invade the other's arena.
