Baxter man arrested by FBI

Officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigations and several police agencies were in Baxter on Thursday looking for a male subject.
When the person wasn't at one location, the visitors from Louisville and other police departments arrived at Rosspoint.
Damien Tyler Scearse, 28, of Baxter, was found and taken into custody as the Harlan County Sheriff's Department assisted the FBI with an arrest Thursday evening.
Scearse, 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds, was arrested without incident and was transferred to the Laurel County Detention Center and booked at 9:12 p.m.
Police officials have yet to release any additional information regarding this matter.
According to the Laurel County Detention Center website, Scearse has been charged with federal prisoner held-in transit/court/serveout.
No bond was allowed at this time.
Scearse was last arrested Aug. 12, 2025, on a charge of non-payment of court costs, fees or fines. He served less than two hours.
On Oct. 30, 2024, he was charged and arrested on two counts of failure to appear.
He was charged and arrested for failure to appear and non-payment of court costs, fees or fines on Feb. 26, 2018.
