After retiring 11 straight batters, NiJaree Canady ran into her first bit of trouble of the night. Reese Atwood doubled with two outs, and Leighann Goode was hit by a pitch. Texas turned to Hannah Wells, one of the most accomplished freshman hitters in program history, to take over in the circle. Hannah Wells ran into trouble after Jasmyn Burns recorded her second hit of the game with a single up the middle. Wells then issued a walk and hit a batter, loading the bases with two outs for the Red Raiders.
Texas head coach Mike White wasted no time, turning back to starter Citlaly Gutierrez in an effort to escape the jam. The senior pitcher delivered, getting Mihyia Davis to line out to center field and keeping Texas Tech’s lead at one.
