FBI questions several Milwaukee police officers about 2020 election

MILWAUKEE —
FBI agents interviewed several Milwaukee police officers Tuesday, questioning them about the 2020 election and the city’s central count location.
The intensifying probe comes as Milwaukee’s Common Council also voted Tuesday in favor of hiring outside counsel for election-related matters.
WISN 12 News has learned two officers were interviewed for a brief time, and the questions centered around central count, where nearly 180,000 absentee ballots were processed.
The FBI has told the officers they are not the target of any investigation.
The FBI has attempted to interview multiple election officials in recent weeks, current and former, both from Milwaukee and Milwaukee County, all related to the 2020 election.
The overall scope and goal of the FBI’s work is unclear, but much attention has been given to Milwaukee’s nearly 180,000 absentee ballots from 2020, which have not yet been destroyed.
A spokesperson for the FBI declined to comment Tuesday.
In recent weeks, an FBI agent visited the home of the county’s elections director.
“Continuing to relitigate settled questions does not strengthen public confidence in elections but it undermines it,” Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson said at the time.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson also confirmed agents have been attempting to make contact with city election workers.
The FBI has investigated the 2020 election in several other battleground states that President Trump lost in 2020.
