Geneva City Manager Amie Hendrix has announced her resignation and will step down from the position effective July 8 as she prepares to relocate to Maine for new professional and personal opportunities.

The announcement was made jointly on Thursday night by Hendrix and Geneva Mayor Jim Cecere.

Hendrix said the decision came after significant reflection and discussions with her family.

“I was presented with an opportunity that allows me to continue growing professionally while also doing what's best for my family, and that made this an incredibly difficult decision,†Hendrix said. “In the end, it was an opportunity I simply could not pass up.â€

Hendrix has served as Geneva's city manager for the past four years, overseeing city operations during a period that included pandemic recovery efforts, flooding events, staffing shortages, financial challenges, infrastructure needs, and economic development projects.

Mayor Cecere thanked Hendrix for her service to the city and praised her leadership during difficult circumstances.

“Amie has given four years of dedicated service to this city, and I want her to know how genuinely grateful I am for everything she has brought to this work,†Cecere said. “She led this organization through some of the most difficult circumstances any city manager could face, and she did it with professionalism and commitment.â€

Hendrix said serving Geneva was one of the greatest honors of her professional career and credited city employees for helping the city navigate several challenging years.

“The work of local government happens because of the employees who show up every day to serve the community,†Hendrix said. “Whether responding to emergencies, maintaining infrastructure, balancing budgets, managing operations, or supporting residents, city staff consistently demonstrated resilience, professionalism, and commitment under difficult circumstances.â€

She also said continued progress in Geneva will require collaboration and support for city staff and leadership.

Hendrix expressed appreciation to city employees, elected officials, residents, and community organizations for their support during her tenure, adding that Geneva and the Finger Lakes “will always hold a special place†in her heart.

Cecere also thanked Hendrix for remaining in the role through July 8 to help ensure a smooth transition.

City Council is expected to discuss transition plans during its June meeting. Officials said city operations will continue without interruption during the process.
