COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Launched in Indonesia

A nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign has been launched in Indonesia, aiming to vaccinate the majority of the population by the end of the year.

The campaign kicked off on Monday, with healthcare workers and public service officials being the first to receive the vaccine. President Joko Widodo was among the first to be vaccinated, in a bid to boost public confidence in the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

Indonesia has secured over 300 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine through a combination of bilateral deals and the global COVAX scheme. The vaccine being used is produced by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.

In addition to healthcare workers and public officials, the government plans to prioritize the elderly and vulnerable groups in the vaccination rollout. The campaign will be carried out in stages, with the aim of reaching herd immunity and curbing the spread of the virus in the country.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has urged the public to participate in the vaccination program, emphasizing the importance of widespread vaccination in overcoming the pandemic.
