COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Expanded to Include Adolescents
The Ministry of Health has announced that the COVID-19 vaccination campaign will now be expanded to include adolescents aged 12 to 18 years old. This decision comes following the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for use in this age group by the Food and Drug Administration.
According to Health Minister, Dr. Siti Fadilah Supari, vaccinating adolescents is crucial in the fight against the pandemic as they can also spread the virus to others. The vaccination of adolescents will help protect not only this age group but also the wider community.
The vaccination process for adolescents will be the same as for adults, with two doses of the vaccine administered a few weeks apart. Parents or guardians will need to provide consent for their children to receive the vaccine.
The Ministry of Health is working to ensure that there are enough doses of the vaccine available to cover the adolescent population. Vaccination centers across the country are being prepared to accommodate the younger age group.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed about the vaccination campaign and to make informed decisions regarding their children’s participation. More information about the vaccination schedule and locations will be announced in the coming days.
