WHO issues new guidelines on COVID-19 transmission
Geneva: The World Health Organization (WHO) released new guidelines on the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. The guidelines address airborne transmission, ventilation, and the use of masks.
Airborne transmission: The WHO acknowledged that the virus can spread through small droplets released when an infected person exhales, speaks, coughs, or sneezes. These droplets can remain in the air in enclosed spaces where ventilation is poor.
Ventilation: Proper ventilation is important in reducing the risk of transmission indoors. The WHO recommends opening windows, using air purifiers, and avoiding crowded spaces with poor ventilation.
Use of masks: Masks are still recommended as a key measure to prevent the spread of the virus. Masks should be worn in indoor settings and where physical distancing is not possible.
The WHO emphasized the importance of combining these measures to effectively reduce the transmission of COVID-19.
