Russellville, Ark. (KATV) — In an effort to support students and recent graduates of Arkansas Tech University who are veterans, military-affiliated personnel, and their dependents, the Major General William E. Harmon Valor Fund is open for private donations.
According to a release, the institution inducted Harmon of Little Rock into the ATU Hall of Distinction in 1990.
He graduated from Arkansas Tech in 1960 where he was a member of the U.S. Army ROTC program, the Military Honor Society, and also served as an ROTC battle group commander as an undergraduate student.
Harmon served at various capacities during his time on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1960-1992.
After graduation, he was commissioned to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army Infantry and was later detailed to U.S. Army Military Intelligence Branch in 1962.
“The recently dedicated Major General William E. Harmon Office of Veteran Services serves hundreds of military-affiliated students each academic year,” said Melissa South, ATU director of development.
“The office works hard to ensure each service member or dependent maximizes their federal benefits while at Arkansas Tech. Inevitably, situations arise that place a financial burden on these students. These funds aim to financially support our students when these unique situations arise.”
The Major General William E. Harmon Office of Veteran Services at ATU was dedicated Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Private donations will assist in more resources for living expenses, emergency financial needs, academic-related supplies, graduate application expenses, and professional interview attire to ATU students.
Only those with military affiliation (service members or dependents) who are currently enrolled at ATU or graduated from the institution within the last three months.
Those who desire to make a gift in support of the major General William E. Harmon Valor Fund aiding eligible military-affiliated individuals and their dependents can do so here.
Harmon was inducted into the Military Intelligence Hall of Fame in June 2009. He is the first ATU U.S. Army ROTC graduate to earn the rank of General.
