Over 200 names are included on the prosecution and defense witness lists for the upcoming Lindsay Clancy trial. But many of those people will likely never be called to testify.

A status conference was held Thursday in the case of Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts, mom accused of killing her children in 2023. Clancy appeared virtually via Zoom.

Clancy, 35, has pleaded not guilty to murder charges brought by the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office over the 2023 deaths of her children: 5-year-old Cora Clancy, 3-year-old Dawson Clancy, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy.

At Thursday’s hearing, Plymouth Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague said the prosecution’s witness list includes 168 people, but many of them won’t need to be called. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington said he has another 50 names on his witness list, most of whom are civilians. He also said he doesn’t expect to call them all.

The prosecution also said Thursday that they want to do a view of the Duxbury home where the Clancys used to live. The new homeowner, however, is objecting. The debate over whether to conduct a view at the home is expected to be taken up again at a final pretrial conference scheduled for June 18. Jury questions and jury selection are also expected to be discussed, and Clancy will be required to attend that hearing in person.

All of the parties are still waiting for the results of a forensic psychological evaluation of Clancy. So far, only one of the three doctors has filed their reports.

Barring any delays, Clancy’s trial is set to begin on July 20.

Lindsay Clancy's defense team said in a filing last week that she is willing to admit to the killing of her children in writing if the issue can be separated from consideration of her criminal responsibility.

Clancy’s legal team filed a notice in December saying they plan to pursue an insanity defense, and Clancy filed a malpractice lawsuit in Norfolk Superior Court in February against several of her medical providers, alleging they failed to diagnose her bipolar disorder and subjected her to a “disorganized, uncoordinated course of polypharmacy” that resulted in a psychotic break.

If Clancy were found mentally incompetent, she would not go to prison, but she could be committed to a mental health facility.

Prosecutors allege Clancy killed her three children on Jan. 24, 2023, by strangling them with exercise bands after sending her husband to get takeout food from a far away restaurant. Following the attacks, officials allege Clancy cut her wrists and neck before jumping from a second-story window in an attempt to end her own life.

The incident left her paralyzed from the sternum down, according to her attorney. She has been undergoing mental health treatment at Tewksbury State Hospital, where she is under constant supervision.
