FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A Watch Fire is being held at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum this weekend.
From 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday, a fire will burn on O'Day Road.
According to the organization, Watch Fires date back as far as the 1700s.
The tradition involves continuously burning logs on a fire over a period of time to honor fallen U.S. military members.
This year, the Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum is hosting its 38th annual Watch Fire.
The event is held each May, ahead of Memorial Day.
The organization will also hold a dedication ceremony for a ‘Peace Pole' at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, before participating in the city's Memorial Day parade and hosting a ‘Rolling Thunder' Memorial Day program at 12 p.m., on Monday.
