JAKARTA – Portugal made the last preparations before competing in the 2026 World Cup by testing against Nigeria. In the warm-up match at home at the Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa Stadium, Leiria, Thursday, June 11, 2026 early morning WIB, Portugal won narrowly 2-1. Captain Cristiano Ronaldo failed to add a goal record in the match.

In that match, Ronaldo played 65 minutes. The Al Nassr star played the longest among all players in the last trial before facing Congo, which was Portugal’s first opponent at the World Cup.

Coach Roberto Martinez gave every player a chance to appear in the match. Even at halftime, Martinez made eight player changes.

Ronaldo himself actually got three best opportunities that could be converted into goals. The match was only three minutes, he had the opportunity to break into the Nigerian goal. Only the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star’s shot still went wide.

Ronaldo, who will make history by appearing at the World Cup for the sixth time, was again given a good chance when facing the Super Eagles goalkeeper.

However, again, his kick was wide. Finally, his header that greeted Bruno Fernandes’ corner also soared over the crossbar.

When he was pulled out and replaced by Goncalo Ramos who had just led Paris Saint-Germain to win the Champions League for the second time in a row, Ronaldo failed to add to his goal record.

The 41-year-old has scored 143 times in international matches, making him the top scorer in history.

In that match, Pedro Neto opened the door for Portugal’s victory. The Chelsea forward’s goal was created through a collaboration with Diogo Dalot in the 23rd minute.

Only Portugal’s 1-0 lead did not last long. Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, was able to equalize after Akor Adams broke Diogo Costa’s goal in the 37th minute.

Portugal’s victory was finally decided by Francisco Conceicao in the 75th minute. The son of Portuguese legend, Sergio Conceicao, fired a shot into the far corner of the goal which changed the score to 2-1.

The score held until the end of the match, which was an important capital for the Selecao das Quinas to compete in the World Cup. Joining Group K, Portugal competes with Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia. The 2016 European Cup champion started the match against Congo in Houston, Texas, Wednesday local time.
