Nearly one million species risk becoming extinct within decades while current efforts to conserve the earth’s resources will likely fail without radical action, scientists said in a major report issued on Monday.
Climate change, deforestation, and the over-exploitation of wildlife, all of which have been exacerbated by human activities, pose a threat to two-thirds of the world’s endangered species, the report said.
Without drastic action to protect wildlife, humanity risks losing many of the benefits the natural world provides, such as fresh water, pollination, and clean air, said the United Nations-backed report, which was released in Paris.
