The United Nations (UN) has released a new report highlighting the urgent need for global action to combat climate change. The report warns that the world is not on track to meet the targets set out in the Paris Agreement, with current efforts falling far short of what is required.

The report, titled “United in Science 2021”, brings together the latest climate science from leading international organizations. It emphasizes the need for countries to significantly increase their commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to renewable energy sources in order to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

According to the report, the past decade was the hottest on record, with devastating wildfires, heatwaves, and hurricanes becoming more frequent and intense. The effects of climate change are already being felt around the world, impacting communities and ecosystems alike.

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has called on world leaders to take immediate action to address the climate crisis. He stressed the importance of raising ambition ahead of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow later this year, where countries are expected to ramp up their climate commitments.
