Indonesia to Start Vaccinating Children Aged 12-17

The Indonesian government has announced that it will begin vaccinating children aged 12-17 against COVID-19. The decision comes after the country’s Food and Drug Agency approved the emergency use of the Sinovac vaccine for this age group.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that the vaccination drive for children will start in the near future, with priority given to those with underlying health conditions. The government aims to vaccinate around 18 million children in this age group.

According to the Health Ministry, this decision was made in order to achieve herd immunity and protect the younger population from the virus. The ministry also emphasized the importance of parents’ consent for their children to receive the vaccine.
