WHO Releases Guidelines to Help Countries Maintain Essential Health Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released guidelines to assist countries in maintaining essential health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The guidelines are aimed at ensuring that people continue to receive vital health services while also preventing the spread of the virus.
Key guidelines include ensuring the safety of health workers, prioritizing essential services, and engaging with communities to address their health needs. The WHO emphasizes the importance of maintaining services such as routine vaccinations, care for non-communicable diseases, and maternal and child health services.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, stated, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, building and sustaining essential health services is more important than ever.”
The guidelines emphasize the need for countries to adapt their health systems to ensure continuity of essential services while also responding to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Countries are encouraged to innovate and implement solutions that meet the health needs of their populations.
