In nearly 45 years at Lee Health, I have learned that culture is not just a word or a slogan—it is something people feel in moments that matter most.
It is reflected in the compassion shown at a patient's bedside, in the teamwork that helps families through difficult times and in the commitment our physicians, nurses and staff bring to serving this community every day and night.
That culture has long been one of Lee Health's greatest strengths, and it is something I believe will continue to define our future.
In healthcare, culture matters because it directly affects patient care. When people feel supported, respected, and empowered they are better equipped to provide exceptional care. Strong cultures attract and retain talented professionals, foster collaboration, and build trust with the communities they serve.
I am confident this foundation will remain strong under the leadership of Ben Spence, our newly appointed president and CEO, when he assumes the role in October. As healthcare continues to evolve, strong leadership will remain essential—not only in adapting to change, but in preserving the values that matter most.

For me, those honors affirm what I have known for decades: Lee Health is a special place. It is an organization driven by compassion, excellence, and service, with people who answer the call to care for others when they are needed most.
