Community members gathered Saturday evening for the 44th annual St. John's Mexican Fiesta, celebrating with traditional Mexican food, music and performances by dance troupe Grupo Folklórico Izcalli, local artist Eli Lugo and more.
The event serves as a fundraiser for a Spanish-language program at St. John's School and a scholarship fund for postsecondary education for Mexican youths in Lawrence.Â
The fiesta started an hour early because of the threat of bad weather, but it was set to continue through Saturday evening as of publication time.
