Before his heated tirade against a reporter, President Donald Trump held a press briefing to deliver his remarks about the war against Iran and promoted the work on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
President Donald Trump had a heated exchange with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, a move that irked conservatives.
On June 3, Fox News interrupted its daily programming and live-streamed President Trump’s press briefing at the White House in Washington, D.C. During the briefing, Trump, 79, spoke about various topics, such as the war against Iran and the construction work on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. However, the press conference took an unexpected turn when the president clashed with Collins, 34.
Trump threw a temper tantrum when Collins asked him about his now-shuttered $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund proposal. This came after the president appeared in public with bloodshot eyes and a decaying hand after a notable absence from the public eye.
Trump mockingly said, “A young, beautiful woman, never smiles. I see her standing there with hatred in her eyes, like she has hatred.
“Because we had borders, because we have a strong military, because we cut our taxes, because we do things that everybody wanted, and then we win our election in a massive landslide,” he added.
“The fake news, like CNN, like The New York Times, and like others, have abused our people, have abused our people so badly,†he went on, trolling. “And you should be ashamed of yourself. You used to be a conservative. She was a conservative from Alabama, can you believe it?
“But CNN in particular does such false reporting, but now they have new ownership, so maybe it'll straighten out, but I doubt it,” he finished.
Viewers took to social media to defend Collins and slam Trump’s comments, which they argued were misogynistic.
One person said, “Kaitlan is perhaps the best and most professional reporter CNN currently has. What a disrespect toward a self-made, hard-working woman.”
Another person added, “Textbook misogyny. The second Trump is faced with a professional woman who stands up to him, his fragile ego breaks. What an absolute a–hole.”
A third wrote, “Trump seems so intimidated by strong women that he turns into a f—ing a–hole around them. Kaitlan is a complete professional and twice the human being.”
Despite the criticism, the president had a supporter who agreed with him and shared, “Trump values women according to age and appearance. Kaitlan Collins is an old hag with her prime gone away.”
A day before, during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Collins discussed her experience interviewing Trump.
“The closest I’ve come — I mean, I try to be myself, but I also want my interviews to be about the person I’m questioning and their answers, because typically they’re lawmakers and people who get paid taxpayer dollars,” she admitted.
“So I try to keep the focus on them and the question at hand. So I wouldn’t say — Sometimes I’ve had to bite my tongue or like squeeze my pen really hard if I’m trying not to laugh,” Collins concluded.
