The event is a city-wide celebration of the power local hip hop has to unite, uplift, and inspire the community.

Founded by Geneva Olds, KC Hip Hop Week puts the raw talent of local artists and creatives on display and helps them elevate their craft through workshops, networking events, competitions, and more.

“Not only do we highlight the rap artists, we also tap in with small businesses and bring them both together to put on amazing events and shows,†Olds said during an interview with FOX4 Monday.

Over the years, KC Hip Hop Week has helped local artists break onto the scene by connecting them with engineers, producers, and other music industry professionals.

“My best example would be Kadesh Flow,†Olds said. “He plays the [trombone], he raps, [and] he does spoken word. He has taken Kansas City hip hop all the way to Dublin, Ireland — showing the world how talented we are here in the Midwest.â€
