European Parliament votes on new rule to reduce plastic waste
The European Parliament has voted on a new rule to reduce single-use plastics and increase recycling rates across Europe. The new regulation aims to reduce the impact of plastic waste on the environment and move towards a more sustainable future.
Under the new rule, items such as plastic straws, cutlery, and plates will be banned by 2021, and manufacturers will be responsible for covering the costs of waste management and cleanup. The regulation also includes targets for recycling and reducing the use of plastic food containers and beverage cups.
The European Parliament hopes that this new rule will help to create a circular economy for plastics, where products are reused, recycled, and remanufactured. The regulation still needs to be approved by the European Council before it can become law.
