China Launches New Anti-Dumping Probe on Australian Wine

China has announced the launch of a new anti-dumping investigation into Australian wine imports. This comes after tensions between the two countries escalated earlier this year following Australia’s call for an independent inquiry into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that the investigation will focus on wine imported from Australia and will determine whether it is being sold at unfairly low prices, harming Chinese producers. The probe is expected to last for at least a year.

Australia’s trade minister, Simon Birmingham, expressed disappointment at China’s decision, stating that Australia has demonstrated its commitment to international trade rules and that its wine industry operates fairly and transparently.

This latest probe adds to the growing list of Australian exports facing obstacles in the Chinese market, including barley, beef, and coal. The strained trade relations between the two countries have raised concerns about the future of their economic partnership.
