COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Begins in Indonesia

The Indonesian government has officially started its nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign. The campaign aims to vaccinate around 181.5 million people, or about 70% of the country’s population, to achieve herd immunity against the virus.

Healthcare workers and other frontline workers are the first priority for receiving the vaccine. The government plans to vaccinate them first before moving on to the general public. President Joko Widodo was among the first to receive the vaccine to assure the public of its safety and efficacy.

The COVID-19 vaccine used in Indonesia is the Sinovac Biotech vaccine, which has been granted emergency use authorization by the Indonesian food and drug agency. The government has secured millions of doses of the vaccine to ensure an adequate supply for its population.
