A man has barricaded himself inside of the Hale Boggs Federal Building in New Orleans
Two windows have been broken on the eighth floor of the Hale Boggs Federal Building
YOU CAN PROVIDE TO US? THIS THIS MORNING? SURE. SO THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, I GUESS SLIGHTLY BEFORE 6 P.M. AND IT INVOLVED AN EMPLOYEE OF THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR SBA THAT WORKED IN THE BUILDING. SO IT WAS ACTUALLY IN THE FEDERAL BUILDING PART OF THE BUILDING, NOT THE ACTUAL FEDERAL COURTHOUSE, BUT THE FEDERAL BUILDING OR THE FEDERAL BUILDING. AND OBVIOUSLY, YOU SAW WHAT WAS ON THE NEWS LAST NIGHT. THE INCIDENT WAS SOLVED WITHIN ABOUT AN HOUR WITH THE PERSON BEING TAKEN AWAY. THEY BELIEVE THEY HAD SOME KIND OF MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS AT THIS POINT. SO THE THE RESPONSE CAME. BUT ACCESS TO THAT SPACE IS BASICALLY THROUGH SBA, NOT THROUGH THE US MARSHALS SERVICE OR THE COURT STAFF. SO THEY HAD TO OBTAIN ACCESS TO THAT FEDERAL AGENCY. WALK OUR VIEWERS THROUGH HOW THAT TYPICALLY COULD HAPPEN OR WOULD HAPPEN. WELL, I MEAN, IT'S WE'RE DEALING WITH A FEDERAL EMPLOYEE WITH ANOTHER AGENCY THAT HAD SPACE IN THE HALE BOGGS FEDERAL BUILDING. SO OBVIOUSLY, ONCE WE WERE NOTIFIED OUR AGENCY THAT THINGS WERE BEING THROWN OUT THE WINDOW, THE NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED, AND FEDERAL PROTECTIVE SERVICES TO BASICALLY ONE OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT BRANCHES FOR FEDERAL PROPERTY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. SO THOSE AGENCIES WERE CONTACTED. AND THEN THE US MARSHALS SECURITY STAFF ALSO RESPONDED TO THE INCIDENT AS WELL. GOTCHA. SO IT WAS KIND OF YEAH, THE PERSON WAS KIND OF I MEAN, HE WAS IN THERE BASICALLY, FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM, BARRICADED OR WOULD NOT COME OUT AND WAS THROWING STUFF OUT THE WINDOW. SO IT'S A DELICATE SITUATION. SO LAW ENFORCEMENT HAD TO TREAT IT AS SUCH. AND SO JUST TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE IT CORRECT, DID YOU SAY HE WAS HE WAS WORKING HE WORKS IN THE BUILDING AND GAINED ACCESS, CORRECT? CORRECT. SO I THINK IT WAS REPORTED THROUGH SEVERAL OUTLETS THAT SOMEBODY BREACHED SECURITY. THAT ABSOLUTELY DID NOT HAPPEN. THE BUILDING WAS CLOSED. IT WAS AFTER NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS. THIS IS AN EMPLOYEE OF ONE OF THE FEDERAL AGENCIES IN THE BUILDING THAT I GUESS WAS WORKING AFTER HOURS OR HAD A DIFFERENT SCHEDULE. AND HE WAS HE WAS IN THE BUILDING AT THAT TIME THAT THAT WORKER, HE ACTUALLY BELONGS IN THE BUILDING BECAUSE HE WORKED THERE. AND WE APPRECIATE YOU GIVING US THAT INFORMATION. ARE ANY CHANGES EXPECTED THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND, THROUGHOUT THE NEXT WEEK GOING FORWARD TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE FOR THAT MAY BE IN THE BUILDING? YEAH, SURE. WE'LL BE REVIEWING OUR SECURITY POLICIES AND EVERYTHING TO SEE IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE OR BE DONE BETTER, BUT THAT DEFINITELY WILL BE UNDER FURTHER REVIEW OVER THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE BETTER. OKAY. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD? YOU KNOW, AS PEOPLE DO SEE THIS VIDEO THAT, YOU KNOW, IT DOES CATCH THEM OFF GUARD THAT YOU'D LIKE TO ADD TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE CONTEXT TO THIS STORY AND MAKE SURE PEOPLE FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW IT HAPPENED. YEAH. JUST LIKE TO ADD, I MEAN, IT WASN'T SOMEBODY THAT THAT BREACHED SECURITY INTO THE BUILDING OR RAN INTO THE BUILDING. IT WAS SOMEBODY THAT WAS ACTUALLY WORKING THERE. SO OBVIOUSLY THAT'S ANOTHER ISSUE. WE BELIEVE IT'S A MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE. THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE WORLD STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. SO, I MEAN, IF YOU NEED HELP, DEFINITELY TALK TO SOMEONE OR TRY TO SEEK THE HELP THAT YOU NEED SO THAT, YOU KNOW, IF YOU HAVE AN INCIDENT, THEN MAYBE SOMEBODY THERE FOR YOU TO HELP YOU CATCH YOU. OKAY, WELL, WE CAN'T TH
