Canberra/London, 22nd May 2026 – ICJP, alongside our Australian partners Amnesty International Australia, the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN), and the Australian Muslim Advocacy Network (AMAN), have lodged a complaint of criminal offences to the Australian Federal Police concerning war crimes that are punishable under the Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The complaint also identifies conduct potentially amounting to offences under Division 268 of the Australian Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth), including crimes against humanity and war crimes offences over which Australia may exercise jurisdiction.

The complaint is aimed at persons responsible for the reported criminal offences and has identified some presumed key suspects.

War crimes detailed in the complaint include, among others, indiscriminate attacks against civilians, indiscriminate and intentional attacks against civilian objects and property, intentionally using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare in Gaza, and the intentional blocking of humanitarian aid.

The coalition calls on the Australian Federal Police to investigate key suspects, pursuant to Australian law and in compliance with Australia's international obligations under the ICC's Rome Statute.

It also calls for the relevant Australian authorities to launch a formal investigation into the war crimes detailed in the Coalition's complaint. The complaint was drafted by ICJP and supplemented by Australian lawyers. The complaint is based on over 130 eyewitness testimonies of war crimes perpetrated by Israel in Gaza. This material meets international criminal legal standards, and the coalition notified Australian authorities that they are willing to make evidence available to them for their consideration and use in legal proceedings if they decide to open an investigation.
