US-North Korea talks ‘more likely than ever’

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said there is a good chance of resuming talks with North Korea, in what would be a U-turn from the previous administration.

Mr Blinken said he hoped that North Korea would react positively to a US diplomatic outreach.

North Korea has not yet commented on the remarks.

Under former President Donald Trump, relations between the US and North Korea appeared close, but little progress was made on denuclearisation.

Mr Trump met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un three times between 2018 and 2019.

Mr Blinken’s comments come as China, North Korea’s ally, says it does not want to see a new Cold War between Beijing and Washington.
