JAMES RODRIGUEZ TO LEAVE MINNESOTA UNITED AFTER WORLD CUP
Colombian star James Rodríguez will depart Minnesota United next week and will not return to the club after the World Cup, according to sources briefed on the situation.
James is expected to join the Colombian national team for the World Cup following Minnesota’s match on Wednesday.
His current contract with Minnesota United runs through June 30 with an option for the second half of the year. The club has not decided to pick up that option and will only do so if James expresses interest.
This decision marks the end of an unconventional partnership, as James has only played in four MLS games for Minnesota, starting just once. The club’s next match will be against Austin FC at home on Sunday.
Reports indicate that James might retire after the World Cup, with Apple TV’s Michele Giannone also confirming his departure from the Loons.
The 34-year-old midfielder has featured in Colombia’s recent international matches and is expected to play a key role for his national team at the World Cup.
