Seoul, South Korea – South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged calm after North Korea test-fired two intercontinental ballistic missiles in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
The missiles were fired on Thursday from a location near the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, and flew about 800 km before falling into the sea off the country’s east coast, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
The United States condemned the launches and said it was consulting with allies and partners.
The launches were the first of their kind since North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and then-U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to a moratorium on long-range missile launches in 2017.
