LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Through rain or shine, Husker Nation always shows up, but on Saturday they have some special visitors cheering them on.

While the Husker softball team prepared to take the field at Bowlin Stadium, the world is watching to see if they will make it to the College World Series.

That feeling is one these past players knew all too well.

“That memory is so vivid in our minds because it's your lifelong dream,†said Mattie Fowler Burkhardt, a member of Nebraska's 2013 Women's College World Series team.

“I feel like it's still yesterday that we did this so it's such a crazy feeling watching someone else have the chance to do it,†said Alicia Armstrong Miller, a member of Nebraska's 2013 Women's College World Series team.

Burkhart played first base in the 2013 College World Series, saying she circled the date on her calendar and that she wouldn't miss it for the world.

“I don't care where supers is, if we're hosting it in Lincoln, I'm there,†Burkhart said. “If it's on the road I'm there. I'm not gonna miss that day to relive that moment but also dream about it for this current teamâ€

That team is one that these women say they are proud to share a legacy with.

“Just looking at the lines I think that this team has changed the game of Nebraska softball so I tip my cap to them,†Miller said.

They said it's a sisterhood through and through, a culture that has been created by the coaching staff.

“I don't feel like you can replicate that bond anywhere else in life that you do with your college teammates, so it's so fun for us to come together but also our coach is still here and I don't take that for granted,†Burkhart said.

“All of us want to come back and be together again and support the current team. I think that really speaks to the culture of Nebraska Softball,†Miller said.

These women say they can't wait to cheer on this current team, proving once a Husker, always a Husker.
