The Aiken Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is sponsoring the inaugural Sisters in Service luncheon.

The luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, at Newberry Hall., 117 Newberry Street in Aiken starting at 11:00 AM.

All women veterans and those currently serving in all branches, all eras, all ranks are cordially invited to attend this event in honor of National Women Veterans Day. The luncheon is also open to members of the public who would like to show their support of women veterans.

Women Veterans Day is the anniversary of the day the Integration Act was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948. Prior to that time, only women nurses could serve in the regular and reserve forces during peacetime. The first Women Veterans Day was celebrated on June 12, 2018, and is currently a state-recognized commemoration in several states, including South Carolina.

The keynote speaker will be Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost, USAF (Ret), who ended her illustrious career (1988-2024) as commander of the United States Transportation Command. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Van Ovost credits her time as a JROTC cadet in high school with helping develop her leadership skills.

The cost for the event is $30 and includes lunch, beverage and dessert. The registration deadline is June 5.
