US Economy Grows 6.4% in First Quarter of 2021
The US economy grew at an annual rate of 6.4% in the first quarter of 2021, according to the latest data released by the Department of Commerce. This growth exceeded economists’ expectations and marks a significant improvement from the 4.3% growth rate in the fourth quarter of 2020.
The increase in GDP was driven by a surge in consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of economic activity in the US. The country also saw a boost in business investment and exports, contributing to the overall growth.
Despite the positive growth numbers, economists are cautious about the outlook for the rest of the year. While the vaccine rollout and stimulus packages have helped spur economic activity, concerns remain about the ongoing impact of the pandemic on certain sectors of the economy.
Analysts predict that the economy will continue to recover at a steady pace throughout the year, with projections for annual GDP growth ranging from 6% to 7%.
