Israel’s military operations targeted over 200 alleged Resistance Movement Hezbollah infrastructures in Southern Lebanon during the last 24 hours, even as ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Lebanon unfold in Washington.
The Israeli Army intensified its military campaign in Southern Lebanon, striking more than 200 alleged Hezbollah infrastructures. These bombardments occurred concurrently with a new round of ceasefire talks, a move that reinforces the long-standing Israeli doctrine of negotiating while maintaining significant military pressure on the ground. The attacks, reported by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), included targeting approximately 20 rocket launchers.
Beyond the aerial assaults, Israel continues its ground invasion in southeastern Lebanon. Occupation troops have reportedly destroyed additional rocket launchers and anti-tank missiles, implementing what analysts describe as a “scorched earth” policy in the border areas.
This strategy aims to devastate infrastructure and capabilities, creating a buffer zone while diplomatic efforts are underway. The escalation of hostilities during sensitive negotiations highlights a persistent pattern in the region, where military actions are often leveraged to influence political outcomes.
These military operations are taking place in parallel with the discussions held in Washington between Israel and Lebanon. Notably, Hezbollah is not directly represented in these talks.
Last Tuesday, Israel presented a contentious proposal to condition the negotiations. This plan seeks to divide Southern Lebanon into three operational zones, demanding the total disarmament and elimination of the Lebanese resistance. Such a proposal, if implemented, would fundamentally alter the geopolitical landscape of the border region and could further destabilize an already volatile area.
For its part, the Lebanese Government has consistently reiterated the critical importance of the full implementation of the November 2024 declaration of cessation of hostilities. Beirut has emphatically stressed the necessity of respecting its territorial integrity and has demanded an immediate ceasefire. Furthermore, Lebanon has called for urgent measures to address the burgeoning humanitarian crisis that has resulted from the relentless Israeli bombardments. The continuous military actions have displaced populations, destroyed infrastructure, and severely impacted the livelihoods of countless civilians in Southern Lebanon.
Despite the profound differences and the continued aggression, the Governments of Israel and Lebanon have agreed to reconvene for further talks. The date and location for these subsequent meetings are yet to be determined.
