WHO declares COVID-19 a pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a pandemic. This announcement comes as the virus continues to spread globally, affecting over 100 countries.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated, “We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus.”

As the number of cases and deaths continue to rise, countries around the world are implementing strict measures to contain the spread of the virus. These measures include travel bans, quarantines, and the closure of schools and public events.

The WHO has urged all countries to take action to protect their populations. Tedros emphasized the importance of solidarity and cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, stating, “We are all in this together, and we can only succeed together.”
