MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – Residents will have the opportunity to explore museums, performances, art exhibits and live entertainment across the city during Midland's first-ever Arts & Culture Day on Saturday, June 20.
The free, daylong event is part of the Midland Celebrates America 250 initiative and is presented by title sponsor Rogers Ford.
Activities will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 15 locations throughout Midland.
The celebration begins at 8 a.m. with the Downtown Farmers Market, where Mayor Lori Blong is scheduled to officially open the festivities.
The morning lineup includes live music, a Patriotic Rise & Run, pop-up pickleball and more than 70 food and vendor booths. Market activities will continue until noon.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can take part in a citywide open house featuring free admission and activities at 15 venues.
Attractions include giant “Bigger in Texas†sculptures and planetarium shows at the Museum of the Southwest, an Ice Age exhibit at the Sibley Nature Center, and a screening of the hit musical Hamilton at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center.
Additional activities will be offered by the Arts Council of Midland, Midland College, the Downtown Library and Basin PBS.
Art enthusiasts can browse and purchase works from local artists during the “Living in America†pop-up Art Market at Cole Theatre, hosted by Cultura West and Midland Community Theatre.
The Palette Club of Midland will also invite community members to paint 250 patriotic canvases that will later be presented to the city as a gift during Fourth of July celebrations.
Attendees can access a free digital pass through the Midland Celebrates website to help guide them through participating locations.
The day concludes with a free outdoor concert beginning at 6 p.m. at 404 N. Colorado St.
Performers include local group Lumby River, the Huser Brother Band and headliner Cole Phillips. Food vendors, nonalcoholic beverages, bars and shopping booths will also be available.
The event is free and open to all ages.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating at the evening concert.
Outside food and drinks will not be permitted.
