Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said on Monday that it welcomes the United States and Iran's memorandum of understanding to stop military activities, expressing support for diplomatic initiatives to settle regional conflicts.
The ministry honored the two countries for their agreement, expressing optimism that it will boost regional stability and create new opportunities for understanding and collaboration.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Iraq's consistent approach has been, and continues to be, one that is opposing violence and embracing discussion and diplomatic methods as the best strategy to resolve conflicts.
As it complimented Pakistan's and Qatar's mediation activities, the ministry mentioned that Iraq had carefully monitored the discussions that stopped the military operations.
The ministry also expressed optimism that the agreement would permanently stop the conflict and stated that Iraq will continue to enhance connections with crisis-affected nations.
The declarations came after Washington and Tehran announced a framework deal that included a suspension of military operations, a promise to future discussions, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The agreement, announced through mediator Pakistan, is likely to calm military tensions and pave the way for discussions on Iran's nuclear program and other concerns.
