The National Weather Service is warning of extreme temperatures for Monday's first FIFA World Cup game in Seattle, between Belgium and Egypt. Drink plenty of water, and bring your hats and spray bottles, forecasters say.

NWS forecaster Dustin Guy said Monday will be much like Sunday, with potentially record-breaking high temperatures in the 90s. He said a new daily record was set Sunday at SeaTac, where the high was recorded at 88 degrees. The previous record was 86.

Guy said the dry, warm air mass that has lingered over Western Washington, resulting in the extreme heat, will begin to dissipate Tuesday. The weather is expected to become more seasonal, with temperatures in the 70s through Wednesday. Another warming trend will move through the Puget Sound region beginning Thursday, with temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s.

“All of this is above average for this time of year, which is 70 degrees,†he said. He said chances of any precipitation this week are “very low.â€

Record warm low temperatures are likely to be broken in Seattle and Olympia, as temperatures along the Interstate 5 corridor from Everett to Olympia may only drop to 65 degrees overnight and Monday night.
