The FIFA World Cup is underway in North America, and while Portland will not host a single match, the city will still have a place in the world’s biggest sporting event.
The University of Portland has been selected by FIFA as the official Team Base Camp for the Jordan men’s national soccer team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Jordan is using the university’s facilities as its headquarters throughout the group stage, training on campus and spending much of its time in Portland between matches.
The honor places the University of Portland among an exclusive group of just 48 Team Base Camps chosen across the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the tournament’s 48 participating nations.
For a city without a World Cup venue, the selection is a significant role in the month-long global event. Thousands of fans will travel across North America to follow their national teams, and Jordan’s connection to Portland gives the Rose City a direct link to the world’s most-watched sporting competition.
As Jordan prepares to compete against some of the world’s top soccer nations, the team’s journey will begin each day on the University of Portland campus, turning a local college soccer facility into a World Cup headquarters.
