BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) – A celebration is planned to commemorate Juneteenth in Mercer County.

According to a Facebook post by the City of Bluefield Parks and Recreation, the Juneteenth Commission of Mercer County in partnership with the City of Bluefield, WV, is hosting a Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Dog Park in downtown Bluefield, WV. There will be live music, food trucks, and vendors to celebrate cultural heritage here in the Mountain State.

Additionally, according to a Facebook post by the Juneteenth Commission of Mercer County, as part of the celebration, on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a free movie showing of Sarah's Oil at the Granada Theater, located at 537 Commerce Street in Bluefield, WV. The movie is “the remarkable true story of eleven-year-old Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she's allotted and whose faith is proven right,†as stated on the IMDb website.
