Since 2018, automotive publisher Carrara Media has documented and showcased car culture from around the globe through their publications. With books such as Larry Chen's automotive photographs in “Life At Shutter Speed,†a look at the West Coast car scene in “Bayside Magazine†and the story of a mother racing in “Your Mom Races Rally,†the company has gone on to tell a wide range of automotive stories.

In Vochos Unidos, photographer Rodrigo Gaya Viliar takes the viewer on a trip to Mexico, documenting the prevalent culture surrounding the Volkswagen Beetle among Mexican car enthusiasts.

To celebrate the release of Vochos Unidos and Cinco de Mayo, Carrara Books hosted a Volkswagen car meet at the Vintage Motor Union in Downtown Los Angeles on May 3. The event not only celebrated the book, but gave spectators a unique opportunity to enjoy Mexican culture on full display with cars and musical performances taking over the street.

Here are some highlights capturing the cars, people and blend of various cultures converging in one place.

Compared to other modern automotive outlets, Carrara Books keeps things interesting by not only showcasing the cars, but the culture and people behind these machines. In stark contrast to the Volkswagen Beetles of Mexico, their next publication “Ready to Rock†focuses on how Vaughn Gittin Jr. made automotive performance company RTR Vehicles into what it is today.
