WISCONSIN — This week on Spectrum News 1's “Voices for Veterans†series, we spotlight the USO. Â
Josh Sova, executive director of the USO, joined us to talk about the how the organization aims to strengthen America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country throughout their service, wherever they are globally on bases, in centers, at airports, etc.
The USO does this by hosting programs, baby showers, holiday events, canine programs and by providing care packages.
USO also offers high-speed Wi-Fi access for service members and their families to connect on their personal devices.
According to USO, most deployments last nine months to one year, which can impose emotional and financial strains on military families. USO helps make the return home special for military members and their loved ones with special signs, kid's activities and support.Â
Another offering from USO is “Tickets for Troops,†free tickets to cultural, musical, theatrical and sporting events for military personnel and their families. USO said this is meant to encourage the connection to home and country, or simply to enjoy a night out with loved ones.Â
The USO Wisconsin's latest upcoming event is a “Salute the Troops†Golf Outing Fundraiser on June 22 at Kettle Hills Golf Course in Richfield. It will feature a color guard, flyover and other patriotic games.Â
The organization said it's also seeking volunteers.
