As the conflict with Iran drags into a third month, a new study finds American consumers are paying the price.

A new analysis by Moody’s finds American household have shelled out an extra $450 on things like gas, groceries, and utilities because of the war with Iran.

“People don’t need a statistic to figure out how much the war is costing them,†said Julie Siegel, former deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Treasury Department. “You can just go to the pump – and it’s not just gas, right?â€

She continued, “Fertilizer goes through the Strait of Hormuz – that feeds into agriculture, agriculture impacts grocery prices.â€

Siegel said the war with Iran – and it’s economic impact – has become increasingly unpopular among American consumers, especially on the heels of tariffs implemented by President Donald Trump last year.

“I don’t know anybody who’s gotten a double digit raise this year,†said Siegel. “And so, where is that money coming from?â€

She continued, “You know, sometimes price increases come from places that you can’t control – a once in a lifetime pandemic and people can’t leave their house safely to bring goods to market and there’s a lot of demand for goods – and sometimes they come from choices that policy makers make.
