SPRINGFIELD — It will be a celebration of music, culture and community at the Elks Lodge in Springfield on Saturday.

“A Journey in Jazz,†which was founded 10 years ago by Traci Talbert, invites guests to enjoy live music performances while learning more about the history of jazz. Throughout the years, audiences have journeyed between different time periods and explored various themes including the Roaring '20s, the Swing era, Louis Armstrong, cool jazz, and smooth jazz.

“This celebration is about more than music,†said Talbert in a statement. “It is about preserving our stories, honoring those who came before us, celebrating the artists who continue to inspire us, and ensuring that future generations understand the cultural significance of jazz and its impact on American history.â€

Live music will be performed by Linda Ransom, Orice Jenkins, Ethel Lee, Christina Colon, Michela Marino Lerman, Genevieve Rose, Jocelyn Pleasant, Ed Brainerd, Brad Rickert, Frank Newton and Bobby Ferrier.

In addition to the music, the 10th “A Journey in Jazz†program will pay tribute to the legacies of late community leaders Henry Thomas and Benjamin Swan.

Special tribute will also be paid to those who had a lasting impact on Springfield's art and music scene, including Nikki Mathis, Gee Gee Seerattan and Rosemary Tracy Woods.

The evening's dinner, catered by chef Johnny Scott, will honor the late chef Wayne Hooker of Big Mamou Restaurant, who died in 2025.

The 10th anniversary celebration of “A Journey in Jazz†takes place on Saturday, June 6, at the Elks Lodge on Tiffany Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by contacting Talbert at 413-883-9631 or Patricia at 413-505-0583.
