An Army veteran who was wounded in Afghanistan is now moving into a mortgage-free home designed just for him and his family.

WEST FALLS, N.Y. — A Western New York Army veteran wounded in combat was honored in an emotional ceremony as he and his family received a mortgage-free home designed to meet his needs.

Nathan Kalwicki and his wife, Veronica, were presented with the keys to their new home during a dedication ceremony held in West Falls. The home was built specifically for Kalwicki, who lost his leg after being wounded while serving in Afghanistan in 2011.

The house is fully accessible, tailored to support Kalwicki's daily living following his injury. The project was completed through the efforts of A Soldier's Journey Home, with extensive support from volunteers, fellow veterans, first responders, and local businesses.

The ceremony marked what organizers described as a powerful moment honoring one of our nation’s heroes, recognizing Kalwicki's sacrifices and service.

Kalwicki and his wife expressed excitement about beginning the next chapter in their new home, saying they are looking forward to decorating their space. The couple also emphasized their gratitude for the community effort that made the project possible.

Kalwicki said the experience has inspired him to give back. He added that he is looking forward to helping with next year’s build for a veteran, continuing the cycle of support for those who have served.
