Arman Abeuov Appointed Head of the IJF Military Commission

The International Judo Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Arman Abeuov as head of the IJF Military Commission, under the umbrella of the IJF Military and Police Commission.

This important commission plays a key role in supervising and promoting the implementation of judo within military and police structures around the world, reinforcing the educational, disciplinary and social values that judo brings to institutions dedicated to public service and national defence.

The appointment of Mr Abeuov reflects both his extensive experience in military sports administration and his lifelong commitment to judo. Based in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, the 43-year-old currently serves as chairperson of the Sports Committee of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan's Central Sports Club, a position he has held since May 2023.

In this role, he oversees the development of physical training and sport within the armed forces of Kazakhstan, including the preparation of athletes for national and international competitions, among them events organised by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). His responsibilities also include the development of military applied sports and the promotion of military service among young people through sporting initiatives.

IJF President Marius Vizer welcomed the appointment, declaring, “Arman Abeuov represents the values that judo can bring to military and public service institutions around the world. His experience, leadership and lifelong dedication to judo will be an important asset for the continued development of our Military and Police Commission activities.â€

Mr Abeuov's appointment further illustrates Kazakhstan's growing investment in judo as a tool for education, structure and social development, an approach recently highlighted through several initiatives strengthening the connection between sport, learning and institutional engagement.

Beyond his administrative expertise, Mr Abeuov is also a highly accomplished judoka. He holds a ‘Master of Sports International Class' qualification in judo, is champion of Asia in judo and a ten-time champion of Kazakhstan. He also claimed victory at the veterans world judo championships in Abu Dhabi in 2022 and Las Vegas in 2024.

His academic background combines law, economics and military sports education. He graduated from Karaganda State University in jurisprudence and finance before completing a master's degree at the National Defense University of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of ground forces, physical training and sport in the military.

The IJF is confident that Mr Abeuov's broad experience, leadership qualities and deep understanding of judo's educational values will contribute significantly to the continued development of the IJF Military and Police Commission's activities worldwide.

Through this appointment, the IJF continues to strengthen the links between judo, education and service institutions, promoting the values of respect, discipline, courage and solidarity far beyond the competition tatami.
