The U.S. is preparing for new military strikes against Iran as tensions continue to escalate despite ongoing diplomatic efforts and a fragile ceasefire in the region, according to multiple reports.

Citing unnamed sources “with direct knowledge of the planning,” CBS News shared the news on Friday night.

Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump announced he would not be attending Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this weekend.

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time,” he added. “Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”

The White House has not publicly confirmed whether strikes are imminent, but reports indicate military planning has intensified in recent days.

The news comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there had been “some progress” in negotiations with Iran, while regional mediators from Pakistan and Gulf nations continue efforts to prevent another round of fighting.

Trump has repeatedly warned that Iran could face “another big hit” if talks collapse or if Tehran takes actions viewed as threatening U.S. interests.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously said the U.S. military was prepared to launch its “largest strike package yet” against Iranian targets as part of ongoing operations in the region. U.S. officials said thousands of targets tied to Iran's military infrastructure have already been hit since the conflict began earlier this year.

The latest developments come amid broader instability tied to the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, which began after joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian military and government targets in February. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, Gulf states, and U.S. military positions throughout the region.

Iranian officials have warned that any new U.S. military action would trigger retaliation and could further destabilize global shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil transit corridor.

“Someone’s going to have to do something about it, OK?” Rubio said on Friday, insisting that Iran was not going to “voluntarily reopen” the strait.
