The annual Orlando Downtown Carnival is a three-day-long celebration of Caribbean culture through food, live music and connection. Beginning on Friday, festivities meet fashion downtown in Carnival on the Runway.

The show features vibrant Caribbean-inspired designs from up-and-coming designers, all competing for a grand cash prize of $1,500. Starting bright and early on Saturday, the J'ouvert cultural explosion and street party will take over downtown. The festival continues strong into the afternoon with the Orlando Steelpan Festival, with music accompanied by Caribbean food and drinks. Rounding out the weekend on Sunday, the Mas Band Parade and Concert will be a spirited masquerade with high-energy live performances.

Vibrant cultural celebrations like this are ever more crucial in a state whose government is wrongheadedly obsessed with stamping out anything they might label DEI-related. Also: fun as hell. So don't miss out!

Various times Friday-Sunday, May 22-24, throughout downtown Orlando, orlandocarnivaldowntown.com, free-$87.
